Arrest The Culprit Stunting Your Growth!

If you've ever sat through one of my sessions on "Taming Your Fear of Public Speaking," chances are; you've heard me say one phrase over and over. "Fear, when allowed, has the ability to erode at the root of our self-esteem and confidence." This is important to understand, solely because "Anything that we give power to, has the ability to stunt growth and paralyze movements."

Let's take an introspective look at your life and the moments where growth was stunt or movements paralyzed. I think it's safe to say in many of those instances, fear was the culprit behind why you didn't. The fear of public speaking, other people's opinions, failing, loving again, going back to school, dating again, and even leaving that job, and starting your own business.

Last year I made a bold, brave, and terrifying visit to Estes Park in Colorado. As we made our journey to an elevated 7,522 feet above sea level, the danger and risk involved became obvious. Looking back on that day, I am sure there were at least ten voices in my head shouting turn back, and they almost got their way. That day we made it to the top of Estes Park, and the view was gorgeously stunning.

It was there I realized those ten voices I heard telling me to turn back were fueled by the thoughts of the risk involved. The thing that made the difference was my ability to marry the risk calculated with ways to mitigate it.

If you want to arrest your fear of public speaking, consider the following:

1. Calculating the risk involved!
2. Find ways to mitigate those risks.
